Day 31 & 32 Palas de Rei to Ribadiso – Ribadiso to Lavacolla

UPDATE: 3 & 2 WALKING DAYS REMAINING. Which means we have 1 as in ONE, walking day left to reach Santiago!

For efficiency sake (and because I didn’t take many pictures today) I have decided to consolidate these days together.

20140607-192948-70188268.jpg
joyful dancing pilgrims, just like us!

We were seeing these “structures” in the yards of homes, farms with no idea what they were? We thought perhaps a burial place? something for feeding the animals? We put Elda’s wonderful Spanish speaking skills to good work and discovered they are for aging cheese!

20140607-194715-71235482.jpg
This was a small one, more ornamental that said it was for getting pan (bread) delivered.

A sacred heart with Mary and a Botafumeiro in a chapel we passed.

20140607-223057-81057453.jpg
A crazy waiter and waitress we met at lunch were wishing us good pilgrim luck by throwing salt over their shoulder.

20140607-223500-81300160.jpg
A crazy smoking pig head on display in a butchers window.

20140607-223607-81367499.jpg
A beautiful church with lovely painted ceilings.

20140607-224333-81813090.jpg
At dinner with another place mat-map. We were close to Arzua on the map and look how close to Santiago! a I ate a burger and fries, it was ok, but nothing to write home about.

20140607-224744-82064531.jpg
The start of a new day! 2 walking days left.

20140607-224944-82184762.jpg
We were afraid it might be raining, but it was a beautiful morning.

20140607-225232-82352582.jpg
A field of wildflowers and more of those amazing giant eucalyptus trees. The strong winds blow those high tree tops all around but protects the walking pilgrims underneath.

We’re getting closer with every step and so is our excitement, along with the pain in our bodies and feet. In case you were wondering, walking 20 miles after you’ve been walking 100’s of miles everyday for over a month takes it’s toll on you both mentally and physically.

A nice pilgrims sign.
.

20140607-230347-83027648.jpg
We walked right past the airport for Santiago.

20140607-230447-83087804.jpg
We finally see our hotel Ruta Jacobeo in Labacolla.

20140607-230839-83319669.jpg
These accommodations were way upscale from the albergues we’ve gotten used to- we had hot baths and a blow drier, such luxuries for pilgrims.

20140607-231041-83441397.jpg
Look, we were even greeted with a rainbow!

20140607-231414-83654866.jpg
We shared a wonderful dinner along with our Camino memories and lots of laughs.

20140607-231514-83714829.jpg

We sat next to good pilgrim friends who sang lovely Irish folk ballads, a really nice gathering.

20140607-232304-84184864.jpg
We took pictures with our pretty blown dried hair sitting in the hotel living room.

20140607-232845-84525454.jpg
Our friend John (the elementary school librarian from DC – John) did a little photo shoot of us after dinner.

20140607-233104-84664803.jpg
These were our “Charlie’s Angel- Pilgrims” poses !

Enough silliness! It’s time for bed now. We have 1, yes ONE more walking day (I think from the above photos you can tell we are just a tad bit excited, thrilled, proud, elated, and feeling totally blessed).
We will see our supporting friends and family tomorrow as the walking/back-pack part of this adventure comes to an end tomorrow in Santiago!
Buen Camino,
Kate, Danni and Elda

Pilar…..you found us! You have soooo been on our minds and certainly in our hearts. We arrived safely and joyfully (and a wee bit soar) to Santiago yesterday (Sunday) at 10:00. We have seen Hubert today and lots of other pilgrim friends. So sorry to not see your beautiful smile also and share a big hug, but happy to hear you were able to meet up with your cousin in Leon.
My Email is kvonalt@yahoo.com and with that I can also put you in touch with Danni and Elda. I’ll never forget your gentle kindness, playfulness and walking with me while me eyes were closed. We’re Camino heart connected so let’s stay digitally connected….. And who knows if we’re really lucky our paths will cross again.
      Buen Camino sister!
